Evaluation of a 5-day High-Dose Course of Amoxicillin for the Management of Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Children of 6 months to 10 years of Age

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is one of the more frequently diagnosed infections in children. The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) does not currently recommend a specific duration of antibiotics for CAP but notes that 10-day courses are best studied. Studies in adults report that shorter durations can be just as effective. This study was a 2-center, blinded, noninferiority trial comparing 5 vs 10 days of high-dose amoxicillin for CAP.
